Synopsis[]
Well... far, far away, in the enchanted land of Unicornia, a rascally young friend named Rarity the Unicorn has been selected for a very important responsibility - to become a princess and create the first rainbow of the season. But there's a problem. This little unicorn just wants to have fun!
With the wave of her magic wand, Rarity The Unicorn sets off on an adventurous, magical mishap throughout the land. Along the way she makes new friends and has tons of fun! But the fun is over when the rainbows around Ponyville begin to disappear. What will our fun-loving unicorn do?
Join Rarity the Unicorn, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and all your pony friends as they race to get back to Unicornia in time to save all the rainbows of the land, and learn that true friendship needs all the colors of the rainbow!

Re-release[]
Late in September 2010, The Runaway Rainbow was released on HubWorld.com, and was available there until the Hub Network was discontinued in 2014.
On January 21, 2014, Shout! Factory re-released the film as part of the My Little Pony: Classic Movie Collection DVD. It was discontinued by the second quarter of 2021.

The Runaway Rainbow, alongside The Princess Promenade and Twinkle Wish Adventure, premiered on the Hub Network on August 8, 2014.
