Like The Sword in the Stone, Oliver & Company, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon was also planned for a November 7, 2000 release on DVD since early 2000. And like those other three Disney movies, this one didn't get released as planned either. Instead, the final release date for this DVD was January 16, 2001.
Pete's Dragon, a heartwarming musical adventure filled with thrilling plot twists, is now fully restored! A family favorite, this film is a delightful blend of live action and Disney animation.
Pete, a young orphan, runs away from his guardians to a Maine fishingtown with his best friend -- a lovable, sometimes invisible, dragon named Elliott! Things look brighter when Pete and Elliott are taken in by a kind lighthouse keeper, Nora (Helen Reddy) and her father (the legendary Mickey Rooney). But Elliott’s prank-playing lands Pete in trouble with the townsfolk. The adventure goes further awry when crooked salesmen try to capture Elliott for their own gain. Now it’s up to Pete to rescue his magical friend -- and in the process he discovers the real meaning of friendship and family.
Bring home this Disney classic -- filled with Oscar®-nominated songs*, splendid storytelling, and gigantic fun!
